1. Tertiary level qualifications. It is not essential that the translators are graduates of the Faculty of the Arts and Social Sciences, they can be of another profession, however they must prove their knowledge of both a foreign and Croatian language.
2. Proficiency on the computer and appropriate IT equipment – computer with an installed programme package Microsoft Office (XP or 2003) with corresponding package of Proofing tools which serve for correction and checking spelling and grammar in texts. Word is part of the Microsoft Office program package, however the Proofing tools are NOT part of the program package and must be obtained separately. In the event that a text cannot be delivered to the translator by email, translators will pick up the translation themselves and are responsible for its delivery at the agreed time. Translators must check whether their translation has reached the agency, and this may be done in a number of ways: read receipt, phone call or sending an additional email for the purpose of checking. Translations that have not been delivered or translations delivered after the given deadline will unfortunately be considered uncompleted translations.
3. The translation must be correct, delivered before or at the latest by the indicated deadline, in the form agreed in advance, and with the spelling and grammar checked as previously mentioned. Upon delivering a translation, we kindly ask that translators list the number of cards to enable easier and faster harmonisation. When translating the number of characters achieved by frequent use of the space bar cannot be considered characters. We ask translators wherever possible to use the tab key. The appropriate dictionaries and literature must be used when translating, as long-term cooperation is achieved only through quality translations. In the event that a translator delivers a translation with which the client is not satisfied and justifiably requests additional checking and corrections, the translator is obliged to comply with the client’s demands. The agency may also put forward such a request upon checking the delivered translation.
4. A special note for court appointed interpreters. We kindly ask court appointed interpreters to abide by the instructions referred to in the Ordinance on Court Appointed Interpreters: form of translations, manner of binding, blue seal, heading, certification text.
5. Dictionaries and other work aids. Given the lack of dictionaries, use of internet searches when translating is mandatory or, if required and as available, consultation with experts. In the event that translators deliver a translation with which the client is not satisfied and requests additional checking and corrections, the translator must be prepared for additional work because if the job is given to another translator his fee will be reduced by the cost of the work of the other translator.
6. When translating technical texts, translators are obliged to mark parts of the text or terminology for which they require verification, and send queries for assistance in resolving expert terminology in a timely manner (in the message heading it is enough to simply indicate SOS – name of translation) so that the message is urgently processed. We will happily provide the necessary assistance in line with our capabilities.
Given that our deadlines are often short and we are therefore forced, due to time constraints, to divide translation among a number of translators and latter harmonise the terminology, translators are obliged to abide by the instructions they received when a translation is ordered and make glossaries which they deliver in the set form and which is included in the price of the translation.
7. All translations are checked in the agency before delivery, and corrected translations marked with track changes are forwarded to translators. Therefore, we ask that translators taken into account this feedback in future cooperation and easier future work on such texts. Translators, proofreaders and editors mark texts delivered for the purpose of entering corrections, proofreading or editing in the same way.
8. Translators will sign their name and surname or “working name” of choice on the translated text. In this way we will ensure better feedback for our translators, and offer clients an opportunity to choose translators and therefore increase satisfaction with our overall work.
9. Calculation of translations. The form for calculation of translations is submitted for the previous month by the 5th of the coming month, and an invoice delivered within a time period of 5 days from the delivery of the calculation will be paid within 15 days.
